It’s called the Last Friend, and through it, Rufus and Mateo are about to meet up for one last great adventure—to live a lifetime in a single day.

Review
4 Stars

What would you do if you knew you had less than 24 hours to live? Would you make up with old friends? Call your parents? Fall in Love? In a universe where every death is predicted and people are given a warning in order to put their affairs in order and get a last great day Mateo and Rufus have plenty to say to their friends, families and each other. Making a lifetime of memories in less than 24 hours can be a struggle but the two boys certainly try to tick as many boxes as possible. Mateo and Rufus’s adventure is interspersed with insights of other people’s last days and I found this to really ground the story and added to the sense of dread I felt as the day moved on and the ending, and title, came closer. Despite this, They Both Die at the End had plenty of humour and kept me turning the pages. This book just shows it’s not the destination – it’s the journey that really matters.

Available as an Audiobook or E-Book on Borrowbox or to borrow from your local library.

Author: Adam Silvera Genre: Young Adult Fiction (16+) Review By: Ciara, Maynooth Library Synopsis: On September 5, a little after midnight, Death-Cast calls Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio to give them some bad news: They’re going to die today.
