But until now, fans have heard only Bella’s side of the story. At last, readers can experience Edward’s version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun. This unforgettable tale, as told through Edward’s eyes, takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward’s past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life. How can he justify following his heart if it means leading Bella into danger?

This book is worth taking your time over. There is a lot of information and backstory involving Edward Cullen and his family. This book is Twilight, told from his point of view. Edward is intrigued by the fact that he cannot read Bella Swan’s thoughts; yet he can read the thoughts of every other human in the high school in Forks, Washington. The dynamic between Edward and Bella starts awkwardly – he is drawn to her scent, as a vampire, and knows he could kill her easily. All of his family are gifted in some way, with particular emphasis on Edward, Alice, Jasper and Carlisle. Edward observes that Bella is clumsy, with a habit of putting herself in harm’s way. He rescues her from an accident in the school parking lot, but after Bella is treated by Carlisle, Edward can’t explain to her why he saved her. Several chapters revolve around Edward’s thought process, filling in some answers about his life prior to meeting Bella. He often observes that he is the only one in his family to be unattached. Edward wrestles throughout the book with the fact that he is a vampire who cares for and loves Bella, a mortal human girl. Even towards the end of the story, where Bella is involved in a major accident, that conundrum is as explicit for him as it was at the beginning. Having read all of the previous books, Midnight Sun is an interesting continuation to the series. I found I liked hearing Edward’s point of view. I would recommend that anyone looking to read this would at least read Twilight itself to become familiar with the characters first; if I had picked up Midnight Sun without reading the first book, I would have found everything a little confusing.

Available on BorrowBox as an audiobook.

Prefer a physical copy? Request it from your library here:

We hope you enjoyed this review.
