{"id":4751,"date":"2022-02-01T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T10:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kildarelibrariesblog.com\/?p=4751"},"modified":"2022-01-28T16:40:26","modified_gmt":"2022-01-28T16:40:26","slug":"st-brigids-day-to-be-celebrated-across-kildare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kildarelibraries.ie\/blog\/st-brigids-day-to-be-celebrated-across-kildare\/","title":{"rendered":"St Brigid\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Day to be celebrated across Kildare"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Kildare County Council Communications Team<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"125\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/kildarelibraries.ie\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/unknown.jpeg?w=125\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4753\" \/><figcaption>Head &amp; halo of St. Brigid by Harry Clarke, St. Mary&#8217;s Church, Ballinrobe, County Mayo<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kildare County Council is delighted to be supporting the delivery of many events across the county on 1<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;February to commemorate the life and legacy of St Brigid, and mark Imbolc, the ancient festival of Spring.&nbsp; There are many aspects of the life and travels of St Brigid that connect her to Kildare.&nbsp; As an important figure in our history, her name and legacy are ever present in Kildare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.herstory.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Herstory<\/a>&nbsp;Light Show by Dodeca will illuminate local landmarks with art of Brigid and Irish goddesses by artists Bernie Sexton, Non Waters, Courtney Davis and Jim Fitzpatrick.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Kildare County Council, with Kildare\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Creative Ireland team and Decade of Commemorations Committee, are delighted to collaborate with Herstory to illuminate landmark sites countywide on February 1st, after dark,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d&nbsp;<strong>said Lucina Russell, Kildare County Council Arts Officer<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She added; \u00e2\u20ac\u0153This project is centred around&nbsp;St. Brigid&#8217;s Cathedral, Kildare Town, which is synonymous with Brigid, as well as The Wonderful Barn in Leixlip and Kilkea Castle near Athy. Candles can be collected from libraries around Kildare. For more information on events taking place for St Brigid\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Day, and to view the lighting of the Hill of Allen, visit&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.intokildare.ie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">www.intokildare.ie<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kildare County Council was delighted to welcome the recent designation of a new permanent public holiday from next year in celebration of St Brigid\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s day, and the season of Imbolc.
