DEATH OF A NAAS SOLDIER AT THE CURRAGH
The death took place at the Military Hospital, Curragh on Saturday last of Private McGarr, C. Company, 7th Service Battalion R.D.F., after a short illness. The deceased was a native of Naas, but for the last three years he resides in Scotland. He was employed for a number of years by Baron de Robeck. From Scotland he joined the army in response to Lord Kitchener’s appeal, about the 1st September last, and arrived in Naas Depot about the 5th September last. He was drafted to the Curragh on the 7th, where he enjoyed the best of health up to the Monday prior to his death. When the dread disease, pneumonia, claimed another victim. He was attended in his last illness by the Roman Catholic Chaplain to the Forces. He was a great favourite with the Major and officers of his company, who tender to his relatives their deepest sympathy. The funeral took place on Monday morning by road, to Naas Cemetery. He was escorted from the Curragh by a large number of his comrades and civilian friends. Outside Naas the cottage was met by a large crowd of friends and sympathisers, who accompanied the remains to the Cemetery, where they were laid to rest amidst universal expressions of regret. The Rev Father Tierney, C.C., officiated at the graveside.
