INTERMENT OF JOHN DEVOY

INTERMENT OF JOHN DEVOY
To the Editor “ Irish Independent.”
Sir —
In view of the arrangements that are being made by the Irish people in New York to have the remains of the late John Devoy taken to Ireland for interment in Glasnevin, they are having his last wish fulfilled. It might be possible to have a representative and influential committee appointed to take charge of the funeral arrangements on this side and pay a national respect, which is well deserved for his work in the Militant Nationalist Movement.
The late John Devoy differed with many people in the past , but on an occasion such as this we would show our greatness in sinking our differences and party distinctions. On two previous occasions when the remains of Terence Bellew McManus and O’Donovan Rossa were brought for interment, there were men in Ireland big enough to sink their differences and distinctions for such occasions, and not without having very good effect on the people as a whole. Surely it is not too much to ask or expect the same from our leaders to-day.
As one who knew the late John Devoy intimately, l am prepared to help in every possible way in giving effect to the above suggestion.
FRANK ROBBINS (5 Fairview Terr., Dublin).
