LATE MR. W. WILKINSON, LITTLETOWN

IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL TRIBUTE

The death occurred on Monday of last week of Mr. W. Wilkinson, Littletown, Roberstown, member of a widely esteemed local family. For many years he operated a successful licensed and grocery business at Littletown, in conjunction with farming interests. He was one of the founders of the old Ballyteague Gaelic Football Club, and two years ago, when the club was reformed, gave it his full support and took a keen interest in its progress.

A man of great integrity and of unobtrusive charitableness, he commanded the respect and love of all who knew him. He was a brother of Mr. P. P. Wilkinson, the well-known Co. Kildare solicitor. Deceased, who had been ailing for some time, bore his illness with patience and resignation, and his death, fortified by the rites of Holy Church, was a peaceful and happy one.

The remains were removed to Allen Parish Church on Tuesday and the cortege, which was of impressive dimensions, was representative of the professional, business, farming, administrative and political life of the county as well as of the general community. Very Rev. E. O’Byrne, P.P., received the remains and recited the Rosary.

Mass for the repose of the soul of deceased was celebrated on Wednesday morning by Rev. S McNally, C.C., Kill, a cousin of deceased, and the attendance, which was or huge dimensions, followed the remains to the adjoining cemetery, where the graveside prayers were recited by Rev. S. McNally, D.D. assisted by Very Rev. E. O’Byrne, P.P., Very Rev. Fr. Condon, O.P., Prior, Dominican College, Newbridge, and Rev. T. McDonald, C.C., Muinbeag.

The chief mourners were; Mrs. M. Wilkinson (widow), Mr. P. P. Wilkinson (brother); Miss M. H. Wilkinson (sister); Mr. P. Wilkinson (nephew); Messrs. W. Nolan, P. Nolan Dublin; T. McNally, P. McNally, J. McNally, Mrs. McNally; Misses G. McNally, B. McNally, Allenwood (cousins); Miss B. Behan, Naas; Mrs. P. P. Wilkinson (sister-in-law); Mr. R. Behan (brother-in-law); etc.
