KILDARE TEACHER’S  APPOINTMENT

Mr. John Keane has been appointed Principal of the Edenderry Boys’ National schools. Mr. Keane who was Vice-principal, replaces Mr. T. Freyne, Dip.Ed., who retired recently. A native of Maynooth, Mr. Keane is son  of Mrs. Catherine and the late Mr. Laurence Keane. He did his training in the De La Salle College in 1929-31 and was appointed junior assistant in Edenderry in 1932. He had completed his twentieth year of efficient work in the Edenderry Schools when he received notice of his appointment.

Mr. Keane has been an active member of the voluntary defence forces in the country since their formation, first as section leader of the L.D.F. and later with the F.C.A. in which he now holds the rank of Batt. Executive Officer.

Miss Maura O’Connell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph O’Connell, Edenderry has been appointed to the staff of the local Boys’ Schools as temporary assistant.

KILL PAROCHIAL FUND

A very large patronage, drawn from a wide area, greatly enjoyed the well-organised card drive held in Kill last Sunday evening in connection with the local Parochial Fund.  The first prize (£40) went to Mr. Peter Cruise, Straffan, the other placings being second prize (£10) Mr. P. Maguire Junr., Sallins and third prize (£5) Mr. W. Hardnett, Kill. Finalists receiving £1 each were: Messrs. L. Cribbin, Clane;  O. Bergin, Kill; J. Collins, Sherlockstown, and M. Fitzsimons, Bishopscourt. 

WALTZING COMPETITION

The old-time waltzing competition was brought to a very successful and enjoyable conclusion at Clane Hall, 32 couples entering the final. The adjudicator was Mr. Graham (of the Graham Studio of Dancing). After a very thorough scrutiny of the heat winners dancing, Mr J. McGarr, Clane, and Mrs. Cregan, Rathcoffey, were declared the winners, with Mr. Desmond O’Neill, Straffan, and Mrs. P. Carney as runners-up.

The winners received two silver cups, while the runners-up got two silver medals. The committee are very grateful to Mr. Manzor, Mrs. Lavin, Mrs. Blake, Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Murphy, Mr. Barton, Mr. Woods and Mr. Dwyer for their very nice spot prizes; also to the band, Max Premier Swingtetter, and Mr. Graham, the adjudicator, and all who contributed to make the competition successful.
