FORTY YEARS’ SERVICE
NAAS MATERNITY NURSE RETIRES
Mrs. Bridget O’ Donoghue has retired from the Naas and Caragh districts after forty years’ service, during which time the registered close on 7,000 births. She was deservedly popular with all classes, but particularly with the poor, to whom she gave her services unstintingly and unreservedly. Both day and night, in all weathers, she could be seen travelling round on her bicycle, ministering to those who required her skilful attention.
Mrs. O’Donoghue was one of the first to start the Irish Nurses’ Union. She organised branches in Kildare, Carlow and Wicklow. Since its inception this Union has done marvellous work. It has improved to a considerable extent, the salaries and conditions of work for its members.
Now that Mrs. O’Donoghue has retired from her arduous duties, her numerous friends trust that she may live long to enjoy her well-earned rest. The good wishes of the people of Naas and Caragh are extended to her. Few there are who will forget her kindness to them. Many will miss her cherry words of advice and consolation.
