Michael Fitzsimons took a very active part in public affairs in Naas and in County Kildare throughout the first half of the twentieth century, including throughout the revolutionary decade. He was a member of Naas Urban Council for forty-eight consecutive years, also serving on the larger Kildare County Council from 1910 up to his death in 1953.
