             PIGGY ON THE ROOF

RACY FOLK AMUSED AT KILDARE STATION

A very amusing incident occurred at Kildare railway station on Monday, when a pig, by some extraordinary feat of agility, succeeded in getting on the roof of the ladies waiting room.  The pig fair was in progress in the town, and immediately behind the ladies waiting room is a laneway which leads to the cattle bank.  A man pulled his horse here quite close to the wall, and piggy not liking its cribbed accommodation, and seeking freedom, managed to clamber up the side of its cage, and on to the wall, where it found itself in rather a precarious position, but with an elevated view of the railway premises.  Piggy squealed from his perch on the wall top, and immediately drew the attention of a crowded platform of passengers who were about boarding the train on the way to Baldoyle races.  One lady with sporting propensities, to which is added a keen sense of humour, caused much laughter when she said “It’s no wonder there is such a high price for bacon.”  The railway staff, however, failed to see any tinge of humour in the situation, and immediately raised an outcry, which was followed by a ladder, and the adventurous piggy was embraced by a stalwart porter and conveyed, still squealing his protests on to the ground, when he was again cribbed, just as the train moved off amidst the uproarious laughter of the passengers.
