PRESIDENT COSGROVE IN AMERICA
IRISH INDEPENDENT 2 April 1928
SUCCESS OF THE TOUR
THE CLOSING DAY
(From FRANK J. GEARY, Special Representative of the “Irish Independent.”) New York, Friday.
President Cosgrave’s tour concluded to-day with a comparatively quiet programme. There is a feeling of profound satisfaction among the party, at the end of the hustle and round of engagements, at the great success of the tour.
The President paid a number of private calls to-day, including a visit to Mr. John Devoy. He attended a reception and luncheon given at the Lawyers’ Club by Judge Cohalan, and met many prominent citizens there.
The tour closed to-night, when the President attended the dinner of the St. Patrick’s Society, Brookly, and paid a midnight visit to the Emerald Ball at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. He will drive direct from the hotel to the steamer, which will sail at 3 a.m.
PRESIDENT GRATIFIED
The president is highly pleased with the result of his visit, and the very enthusiastic reception which was accorded to him everywhere he went. He looks forward to very good results from his tour, and believes that there is an enthusiastic feeling among Irish-Americans with regard to the future of the country.
He believes that immeasurable good for Ireland will result from the visits he has paid. The great Press publicity attracted the attention of hundreds of thousands of Americans whose knowledge of Irish political, economic and financial conditions was extremely limited.
