Rent receipt Denis Dempsey, Walshestown

Griffith’s Valuation of 1851 shows Denis Dempsey owning two portions of land. One of 4 acres 1 rood 4 perches, another of 3 acres 3 roods 6 perches with a house and offices.

Tenant……………………………………..Denis Dempsey.

Landlord………………………………….Reps. of William F. Mara.

Prefix………………………………………Reps.

Location:-

County…………………………………….Kildare.

Barony…………………………………….Connell.

Union………………………………………Naas.

Parish……………………………………..Greatconnell.

Townsland……………………………….Walshestown.

This shows that Denis Dempsey was renting from the representatives of William F. Mara in Walshestown, Newbridge, Co. Kildare.

The name on the 1863 receipt is Jeremiah Mara, who presumably was a relative, and assuming William F. Mara was dead at this stage. Jeremiah Mara is likely a solicitor in Athy, as his name comes up in the newspapers of the day.
