River Liffey Hydro Electric Scheme Project

Dr Aoife O’Leary-McNeice, a postdoctoral research fellow based at the school of history at the University of Galway and funded by the Irish Research Council is currently (Winter 2024) working on a social and environmental history of hydro-electric schemes built on the rivers Liffey, Erne and Lee between 1943 and 1952. The aim of the project is to understand how the lives of people, plants and animals were impacted by the schemes, and to think about the place of the schemes in the broader history of the economic and social development of the Irish state. As part of her project, she is undertaking oral history research and is seeking call for participants. Further information in the poster below.
