THE BLUE MAX
The Blue Max
The Leinster Leader 24 July 1965
Soldiers from the Curragh Camp will be film actors for the next ten days or so. From Saturday, to August 13th they will be taking part in a film about the First World War. The name of the film is Blue Max, being filmed on location in the Kilpeddar Mountains. The soldiers will take part in the re-enactment of some famous bayonet charges; they will wear the German and British battle-dress of the period. An interesting side-light – many of the soldiers who fought in the battles now the subject of the film were trained on the Curragh before going to France. It has been estimated that about 50,000 Irishmen were killed on the Western Front.
