THE LATE MR. JOHN V. HYNES, SOUTHAMPTON

An open verdict was returned at the inquest last week at Southampton on Mr. John Victor Hynes, son of the late Mr. James and Mrs. Hynes, of St. David’s Terrace, Naas, who died from multiple injuries after falling from the forward funnel of the liner Queen Elizabeth, on which he was employed as a painter.

The accident still remains a mystery, as he always enjoyed perfect health, and although his colleagues were there working with him, they didn’t see him fall.

It was only last June he paid a longed-for visit to Naas, his native town, and was delighted to meet many friends of his boyhood days. He was a staunch Irishman and a devout Catholic, and was always ready to give a helping hand and a comforting smile to those in need.

There was a very large and representative attendance at the Requiem Mass and at the funeral. There were many Mass cards and floral tributes.

He will be sadly missed by his wife and daughter, brother and sisters, and a large circle of friends.
