The Bog in Timahoe<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Come all you boys from Timahoe, Coill Dubh and Roberstown.
\nFrom Allenwood and Carbury, I pray you\u2019ll gather round.
\nI\u2019ll tell you of those days long past\u00a0 when times were hard and tough,
\nWhen men came up to\u00a0 Timahoe to work and save the turf.<\/p>\n

From Waterford and Cork they came, and from Limerick, Tipp and Clare,
\nAnd from the West of Ireland they headed to Kildare.
\nFor the work was hard and the pay was small\u00a0 and the grub was never enough,
\nTo try sustain these hearty men who work to save the turf.<\/p>\n

Accommodation for these men was basic at it\u2019s best,
\nT\u2019was really just a place for them to eat and take a rest,
\nThe work back then was done by hand\u00a0 in sunshine and in rain,
\nAnd those who couldn\u2019t stick the pace were sent back home again.<\/p>\n

Now when machines came on the scene these men they stood in awe,
\nTo see a bagger travel on a bog that was still raw,
\nWith railway sleepers under her to help her travel on,
\nThose big machines were a sight to see in days that are now long gone.<\/p>\n

The bog is standing idle now both machine and man are gone,
\nIt\u2019s sad to see it growing wild where so much work was done,
\nThe men who came to Timahoe were loyal stout and tough,
\nAnd many a family was well reared with the saving of the turf.<\/p>\n
