Two weary travellers,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">From Nazareth they come;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Joseph and Mary, sweet and fair;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Leaving their own dear home,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In wintry weather, cold and chill,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Obedient to their Father\u2019s Will.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Over the hills to Bethlehem,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In the dark and stormy night,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">They find the Inn door closed to them,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">No shelter in their plight-<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">No place to sleep-or kindly voice<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">To bid them welcome, and rejoice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">With patient steps they wander round,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Seeking a refuge near,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A ruined stable mid the rocks<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2018Twas all the shelter there<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">With a clumsy crib and manger,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">An ox and ass rode bound.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">So comfortless-so cold-so bare!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">On scanty straw for bed;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Pure Mary laid her Baby dear,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">No pillow for His head;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Swathed in garments poor and thin,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">While cruel breezes blew within.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Lord of Life and Heaven,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Willed it thus to be;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">No friend on Earth to welcome Him,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">He chose sad poverty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">With Mary and good Joseph,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In sweet humility.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Then was heard soft music,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Descending from the skies<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The wondering Shepherds left their flocks,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">To lift their reverent eyes!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A glorious band of Angels bright<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Hail this Holy Christmas night.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In heavenly harmonies they sing<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Such songs were never heard again<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cGlory to God on High, Our King,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cTo men on Earth, good news we bring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">An Infant Saviour born to-day<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In a manger laid away.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Forth went the simple shepherds,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">To worship and adore,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In haste and wonder do they run,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And open the stable door;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There behold the Child of Mary,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The new born Saviour whom she bore.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The heavens declare His glory,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">With marvellous, flaming Star-<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Which led the eager Wisemen<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">From Eastern lands afar,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In living faith-with treasures rare,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">They bow the Knee-and worship there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We, too, will go to Bethlehem,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">With joy and grateful love;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Like incense be our praises<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">To our Father-God above;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Because He sent His own dear Son,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Who glory did resign<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">To be the Son of Mary dear,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And save us-every one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LEINSTER LEADER 23\u00a0 January 1911 GOING TO BETHLEHEM A carol Lo!
