center;\">Soldiers,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Guns,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Supplies,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A spectacular show<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Is about to<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Be run,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">This was the real battle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">My body was the second.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Fear brings desperation<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A shelter was needed<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Water and more,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Dry trenches, avoid fire, forget exhaustion,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Hidden Tunnels.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Underground warfare<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Germans dug<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We dug,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Side by Side<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Listen, Dig,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Place explosive,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Run.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Terror, fear, flashes!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Fire, rain, crashes,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Spared for another Battle<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">My own.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The shoulders were raw,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The guns were heavy,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We marched all day,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Without a bevvie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The silence,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Waiting for a shell !<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Is my name on the bullet?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I must be in Hell<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Optimism can kill.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Be prepared to drill,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Kill,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Oh Mary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Play cards ?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Learn to dive<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Stay alive<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Prepare for bombards<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Destiny,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Eternity,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Au Revoir.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We could see them<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">As they could see us<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Who will live?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Forgive.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Battle of the Somme Began<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">1916<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Barbed wire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Continuous fire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Red blood flows,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Many decompose<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We were mowed down<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Like grass before the mower.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">No man&#8217;s land,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Was their&#8217;s in death.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Jerry\u2019s counter attacking,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Run, crawl<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Over dead bodies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Soldiers all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Heat, Mud,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Reserves that never arrive<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Will my life be spared?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Paddy the poet.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Heroes<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Brave or willing to die?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Not I,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Not Many,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Is this the reason I wear a<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">British Uniform.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Honourable?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We prayed in silence,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We prayed out loud,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Jesus was called upon,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">His answer blank.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Private or Corporal<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In this death battle<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There is no rank<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Casualties by the score,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Bombing raids,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Exploding shells,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I just can\u2019t take any more.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Not a woman in sight,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Mammy I miss you tonight,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Oh Mary Dear,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I wish you were near.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The walking wounded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">As far as the eye can see,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The blind, the deaf,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">That empty stare,<\/p>\n<p so raw,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Gross disfigurements,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Shell shocked.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Are we being mocked?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">800 went over,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">100 came back,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Chaplain\u2019s task was dark,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">He wrote That letter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Sleeping men,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Dead men,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Side by side,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We have no place to hide<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The uniform is hot,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The tunic was very itchy,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The bites, the boils,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The rashes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">No creams, no cures,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">March on or rot.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Walk in my boots<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Full of my blood<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Septic blisters, pain, pain, pain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Newspapers were welcome,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">As Soles for Shoes,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Hats, bums, beds,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Protection from the sun<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">No time to read.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">A Skeleton Battalion<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Is.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">If I live to be an old man<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The corpses, the smell,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Men decapitated,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Wasted lives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Sir Douglas Haig,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">You got it wrong,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Hun is powerful.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Not many church funerals<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Gone, No Gong, Gone, No Gong.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Trees, trenches, troops,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Trolleys for the wounded,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Stench of decomposing comrades<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">German soldiers,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Prisoners of war,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">What is this for?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Water and Mother,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Were often muttered,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We dance with death.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">*<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The shells crashed,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We dashed,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Utter
