As a member of the Irish Army, he was chiefly instrumental in repulsing an attack on Tullow barracks by the Irregulars during the Civil War, and for his action was immediately promoted lieutenant. He is survived by his wife, Mamie, his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Judge, and his brothers, Tom and Michael.
