Re-typed by Andy Mason.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>1904: HOMES OF KILDARE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Homes of Kildare on your prowess depending<\/p>\n<p>Wait with high hopes for the news of the fight<\/p>\n<p>Think of the joys and gladness unending<\/p>\n<p>Brighten their days for they\u2019ve plenty of might<br \/>\nThink of the aged pair Bowed beneath a life of care<br \/>\nWaiting at home by the fireside to hear<br \/>\nYour homing wild huroo<br \/>\nShouting Cill Dara ab\u00fa<br \/>\nHappy at last: Be it yours them to cheer.<\/p>\n<p>On to famed Dublin\/Thurles then<br \/>\nOn to the struggle, men<br \/>\nFilled with high hopes of a victory grand<br \/>\nDublin\/Kerry may about huroo<br \/>\nShout back Cill Dara ab\u00fa<br \/>\nStrike for our county the first in the land.<\/p>\n<p>(Verse added after All-Ireland victory 1905):<\/p>\n<p>Wake from your slumbers the trumpet is sounding<br \/>\nKerry\u2019s brave heroes at Thurles at fight<br \/>\nGather Kildaremen like swift steeds bounding<br \/>\nChampions of Ireland to come home tonight<br \/>\nevery boy in white<br \/>\nRemember the cause you fight<br \/>\nKildare\u2019s fair fame mid the clans of the kings<br \/>\nOnward like furies run<br \/>\nFiercest fight is only fun<br \/>\nWhile the whole land with your victory rings.<\/p>\n<p>Composed for 1904 Leinster final, in which Dublin beat Kildare 0-9 to 0-5 at Jones\u2019s Road (Croke Park). Updated for 1905 All-Ireland final, when Kildare beat Kerry at Thurles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1906: STEADY BOYS IN WHITE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Steady, boys in white, steady<br \/>\nPonder, gather, catch, secure<br \/>\nTranquil be and ever ready<br \/>\nQuick to pass and to endure.<\/p>\n<p>Aimless kick do not insanely<br \/>\nLike a madman in sore pain<br \/>\nKicking madly therefore vainly<br \/>\nEre you kick just look again<\/p>\n<p>But observe the Dublin Team<br \/>\nLong Collect their awful ire<br \/>\nThey are stronger than they seem<br \/>\nBefore them you must never tire.<\/p>\n<p>No children, they, these Dublin Gaels<br \/>\nBut men of sinew and of grit<br \/>\nBefore your skill naught this avails<br \/>\nIf you, too, are like them, fit.<\/p>\n<p><em>Leinster Leader<\/em>, August 18, 1906. Kildare beat Dublin in the 1905 Leinster final, 0-6 to 0-2 at Athy and went on to win the All-Ireland.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1907: Sons OF ST. BRIGID<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The sons of St. Brigid now carry the sway<br \/>\nSuch a battle we\u2019ll ne\u2019er see again<br \/>\nAnd the boys from Tralee will remember the day<br \/>\nWhen they Roseberry and Clane<br \/>\n\u201cTwas a desparate fight, but we won all the same<br \/>\nFor Thigeen Roe\u2019s boys were all there and they knew every trick that belongs to the game<br \/>\nThose rollicking boys of Kildare.<\/p>\n<p>They beat County Wexford and King\u2019s County too<br \/>\nAnd vanquished the sweet County Louth<br \/>\nAnd now they are champions of Ireland huroo<br \/>\nFor they routed the pick of the South<br \/>\nThey beat County Monaghan and Dublin likewise<br \/>\nWhile the men of Royal Meath were not there<br \/>\nAnd the Gaels of Mayo were entirely too slow<br \/>\nFor the fleetfooted boys of Kildare.<\/p>\n<p>May their history and name rank forever in fame<br \/>\nWith the memory of Hamilton Rowan<br \/>\nMay they live in renown around old Bodenstown<br \/>\nWhere lies the immortal wolfe tone<br \/>\nIn their midst that dissension may ne\u2019er find a home<br \/>\nBut may wither and die in despair<br \/>\nAnd may unity guide them wherever they roam<br \/>\nThose soul-stirring Gaels of Kildare.<\/p>\n<p>In every fair contest stand firm and true<br \/>\nAnd never be cowards or slaves<br \/>\nRemember your forefathers fought bravely too<br \/>\nThe old county\u2019s honour to save<br \/>\nBut, brothers in arms, stand up as one man<br \/>\nLet Harmony reign everywhere<br \/>\nAnd now take your seats in front of the van<br \/>\nAll conquering boys of Kildare.<\/p>\n<p>Sean MacDomhnall, <em>Leinster Leader<\/em>, June 22, 1907.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1956: LEINSTER CHAMPIONS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Well done Kildare the game is won<br \/>\nWith victory once more<br \/>\nThe Lily Whites have conquered<br \/>\nAs in the days of yore<br \/>\nThe Gaelic spirit shines again<br \/>\nThe county rings with joy<br \/>\nAs up we raise the dear old flag<br \/>\nTo its rightful place on high.<\/p>\n<p>The first to fall brave County Louth<br \/>\nThe game was fast and rare<br \/>\nThe boys from Longford then went down<br \/>\nBy the Gaels from old Kildare<br \/>\nOffaly next their best did field<br \/>\nAnd it was a treat to see<br \/>\nThe Lily whites proved superior<br \/>\nAnd brought home victory.<\/p>\n<p>The final test in dear Croke Park<br \/>\nIt was a grand display<br \/>\nAgainst the boys of Wexford<br \/>\nWho led early in the play<br \/>\nA shout of joy went to the sky<br \/>\nAs the ball sailed through the air<br \/>\nThe Leinster crown once more is won<br \/>\nBy the Gaels from old Kildare.<\/p>\n<p>God bless our Leinster champions<br \/>\nThe boys to do and dare<br \/>\nThe Gaelic flag is raised again<br \/>\nO\u2019er the county of Kildare<br \/>\nSo on Kildare to higher fame<br \/>\nBring back the old renown<br \/>\nMarch with the spirit of the Gael<br \/>\nTo win All-Ireland\u2019s crown.<\/p>\n<p>P. Kildare beat Wexford 2-11 to 1-8 in the Leinster final but lost 0-5 to 0-9 against Cork in the All-Ireland semi-final.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1958: KILDARE 3-10, KERRY 1-0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some ballads have been written<br \/>\nMany famous stories told<br \/>\nOf the Lily Whites\u2019 encounters<br \/>\nWith the Kingdom\u2019s Green and Gold.<\/p>\n<p>Here then let me add another<br \/>\nIn this brand new year of grace<br \/>\nJust to know what happened Kerry<br \/>\nWhen they came to play at Naas<\/p>\n<p>They strongly represented<br \/>\nWell Known stars they had galore<br \/>\nDowling Lyne and Paudy Sheehy<br \/>\nMen who seldom miss a score<\/p>\n<p>But the Lily Whites were waiting<br \/>\nLike a well-trained army troop<br \/>\nThey had conquered Cork and Wexford<br \/>\nTwo more games to win the group.<\/p>\n<p>Ere the ball was long in motion<br \/>\nIt had struck the Kerry net<br \/>\nAnd they drove in two more beauties<br \/>\nKingdom folk won\u2019t soon forget.<\/p>\n<p>Brilliant marksman, young O\u2019Malley,<br \/>\nShowed them how to take the frees<br \/>\nAs he sent them soaring over<br \/>\nWith such confidence and ease<\/p>\n<p>Now the Munstermen was worried<br \/>\nFor their stars had failed to shine<br \/>\nOn the goal their final tally<br \/>\nPassed short grass full-back line.<\/p>\n<p>Can it be that noble spirit<br \/>\nOf great Gaels long gone to rest<br \/>\nLike the late Paul Doyle and Higgins<br \/>\nIs now being manifest.<br \/>\nWe are hoping now and praying<br \/>\nFrom Maynooth down to Athy<br \/>\nThat this Lily White revival<br \/>\nWill not flicker out and die.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>These G.A.A. songs of Kildare were included in the Leinster Leader G.A.A.
