The architect George Edmund Street who reported on the ruins in Kildare also worked on the restoration of Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin.<\/p>\n<p>It is a reminder, that from ruin and despair come great things.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/kildarelibraries.ie\/ehistory\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/CATHEDRAL-OF-SAINT-BRIGID.pdf\">CATHEDRAL OF SAINT BRIGID<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>St. Brigid , patroness of Ireland, Mary of the Gael, was remembered in verse by Paddy McCormack<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>Leinster Leader<\/em> 2 February 1941<\/p>\n<p><strong>Feast of St. Brigid<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>February 1st<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oh dear St. Brigid hear our call,<br \/>\nAnd guard our native isle,<br \/>\nIn olden days you spread the light<br \/>\nOf love o\u2019er the soil,<br \/>\nYour mission full of ardent love,<br \/>\nWith pleadings did not fall,<br \/>\nAnd ever shall thy memory live,<br \/>\nAs Mary of the Gael.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p>How oft you prayed with fervent hope<br \/>\nTo save our native land,<br \/>\nThe fire of Faith you kindled here,<br \/>\nBy a heavenly breeze was fanned,<br \/>\nThy earthly life our guiding star,<br \/>\nA beacon of light to all<br \/>\nFond patroness of Erin\u2019s Isle,<br \/>\nYou heard the plaintive call.<\/p>\n<p>Tho\u2019 years have flown O Glorious Saint,<br \/>\nSince you trod the Emerald Isle,<br \/>\nThe hills and pleasant valleys,<br \/>\nSeem acalling all the while.<br \/>\nCome dwell again O Brigid true.<br \/>\nAmidst the scenes so fair,<br \/>\nWhere first thy virtues flourished<br \/>\nFrom thy Convent at Kildare.<\/p>\n<p>The Irish race O faithful Queen,<br \/>\nShall ever breathe thy name,<br \/>\nWith Patrick\u2019s aid Apostle true,<br \/>\nOur land shall rise to fame.<br \/>\nAnd when all earthly things shall end,<br \/>\nWe pray our trials are o\u2019er,<br \/>\nTo meet our Glorious Irish Saint,<br \/>\nYes meet to part no more.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">PATRICK McCORMACK<br \/>\nKildare.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">\n<\/div>\n<p><strong><em>Poem by Paddy McCormack of Kildare Town dedicated to St. Brigid, to commemorate St. Brigid&#8217;s Day, 1st February.
