{"id":7092,"date":"2024-10-10T13:00:30","date_gmt":"2024-10-10T12:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kildarelibraries.ie\/ehistory\/?p=7092"},"modified":"2025-10-29T17:05:35","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T17:05:35","slug":"the-portlester-effigy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kildarelibraries.ie\/ehistory\/the-portlester-effigy\/","title":{"rendered":"The Portlester Effigy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kildare County Archives and Local Studies have two undated photographs of the Portlester Effigy located at New Abbey Cemetery, Kilcullen, which depicts Baron Portlester, Roland FitzEustace (c.1430\u20131496), and one of his three wives, reputed to be Marguerite d\u2019Artois. The Effigy remained lying in the centre of New Abbey Cemetery until it was relocated in 2001 by Kildare County Council.
