Author: Danielle Steel

Genre: Adult Fiction

Review by: Michelle

This book is written in a way that has many stories which intertwine together within the larger story, and many characters with different points of view. As I made my way through the book, I really found myself liking all the characters in their own way and wanting to know more about each one.

It starts with a family – a mam, dad, twin boys, and a teenage girl, Pennie. When Pennie finds herself unexpectedly pregnant, the news brings up old memories for her parents, who themselves became parents very young. Although they loved each other and raised a beloved family after deciding to get married, it becomes clear that their relationship is not quite as happy as it seems.

As they learn of Pennie’s pregnancy, her parents reflect on their own lives and the decisions they made, which ends up leading to some complications in their relationship. With Pennie’s dad, Paul, starting up an affair with a younger woman, and her mother, Eileen, deciding to open her own business, the family is thrown into turmoil.

There are plenty of other characters outside of the family also, who enrich the story and add plenty of variety. For example, there’s Olivia, Paul’s new partner, her mother Gwen, a famous actress, and her grandmother, who is still full of life at 93 and who lives a very interesting life.

The book is very well written, managing to keep you interested in all of the relationships and conflicts, which kept me hooked as I wanted to know more about each one. In particular, I found myself rooting for Eileen, who manages to keep her dignity and kindness throughout, despite the hardships she faces.

In summary, this is very well written and really keeps you engaged with all the little side stories happening. Light easy read and I would recommend it to others.
