Synopsis: The month is May. The year, 1915. On an uninhabited island in the Scillies, Alfie and his father discover an injured girl – thirsty, hungry and with not an inkling of who she is or how she came to be there. Is she a mermaid? A ghost? Or could she even be, as some islanders suggest, a German spy….?
Review: Like all other Michael Morpurgo’s books, his novel entrances the reader until you become lost within the pages and the lives of the characters within.
Baffled by two simple, yet difficult questions, the reader wonders…. Who is this girl? And how did she come to be here?
Then, why is she on a barren island? Alone, with no provisions and no memory of her life.
Kindly, Alfie and his family take the lost girl into their home. The town crowns her “Lucy Lostâ€.
Walk alongside Lucy Lost to discover just how lost she really is. Is she a German spy like some fear?. Or perhaps she truly is a mermaid washed up on the shoreline. Or, maybe, just maybe, she truly is a ghost, wondering, lost, nameless…
I would recommend this book to your readers who enjoy a good mystery with a hint of history added into the mix.
