Synopsis: Set in the days of the Wild Wild West, Adam Pontipee ventures into an Oregon Territory town to look for a bride – he has no time for romance.

Along his way he spots a very handy woman named Millly.

Adam promptly proposes and promises her a better life. Milly agrees to the marriage and returns home with him only to find that what he thinks is better includes looking after his six other brothers – something he failed to mention when proposing to his new bride. And not only that, the brothers have zero manners. Milly, outraged, vows to correct the brothers and make them suitable, marriageable men.

Review: Seven Brides for Seven Brothers is a 1954 musical. The movie focuses around seven brothers who wish to get married. When the eldest, Adam, marries Milly and brings her to his home up in the mountains, she is introduced to his wild, un-tamed six younger brothers.

Outraged by all of their ill manners and Adam’s idea of a better life, she swears to make better men out of them all.

And through a series of amusing scenes Milly does just that. The six, impressionable brothers are no longer resembling hooligans but rather marriageable men.

Taking a page from their brother’s book, they sneak into town and literally snatch themselves a woman each. They drag their poor victims up the mountain as winter rolls in – shutting off the girls from their loved ones. This obviously ensites anarchy, and the brothers are hunted by angry fathers and carers of the girls.

Time is limited for the boys to make the women fall in love with them. But how can they when Milly, irate at their behaviour, won’t let them see the women they brought home to marry?

Seven Brides for Seven brothers is an extremely amusing musical, perfect for any movie night festivities. The misadventures of the “boys” and the misunderstandings between the honeymoon couple makes for wonderful viewing. An absolute must see for anyone who enjoys the genre.
