Summer Stars has begun for 2023 and your child can sign up at their local library.

Summer Stars is an entirely free programme run by public libraries all over the country each summer. This year, it will run from 12th June – 31st August. Children can sign up at at their nearest public library to take part and collect their reading card, which they use to track all the books they read over the summer.

This is a non-competitive programme with the emphasis being on taking part. Each child who reads even one book/eBook from the library during the summer can collect a certificate at the end of the summer for participating. The range of other prizes includes pencils, pencil cases, bags, bookmarks and medals. There will also be activities and other events held in the library along the way.

The aim of the challenge is to incentivise children to keep reading during school holidays when we see reading habits traditionally drop, bridging the gap between the school academic years.

You can visit the Libraries Ireland website here for more information, recommended reading lists, printable activities, and much more.
