More than ever we are acutely aware how important medical staff are to our communities. The work of nurses is often demanding physically and emotionally draining. The exhausting yet rewarding work is often underpaid and under-appreciated. This is a memoir about Christie Watson, a selfless, caring and considerate veteran nurse.
Her experience has made her wise and reflective. She also gives the layman a good insight into the different pockets of the hospital’s infrastructure. She encompasses a wide range of areas such the Emergency Department, operating theatre, paediatrics and neonatal intensive wards, intensive care units for adults, psychiatrist wards and general wards.Â
She has worked as a nurse for twenty years. It has been reported she has come out of retirement to go back into nursing to help combat the current Covid -19 Health Crisis. Christie is a remarkable person and her pursuit of professionalism and humanity to patients has been heroic.Â
Nursing is more than a vocation. It takes a special type of person to do it. Sometimes all that was required of Christie was to hold a patient’s hand and keep them company. (Before Covid-19) She is intuitive to know what to say at the right time and know the best action to put in place.
