Many of our wonderful readers and library users are not just fans of books, some of you love to engage in the many creative writing groups our library service has to offer. We know some of you might be missing these groups and meetings in our libraries so when we were notified of this competition we just had to tell our library users all about it too and offer you the opportunity get involved and get your creative writing ideas flowing during this strange times. The Michael Mullan 2020 Writing Competition aims to encourage people to explore their creativity through writing, while at home or isolating.
This is an open competition for Short Stories, Flash Fiction and Poetry on any subject matter with a closing date of Thursday 16th July 2020. Our judges this year are John MacKenna, Caroline E. Farrell and Niamh Boyce.
The entry fee is €15 for the Short Stories competition, with a 1st Prize of €200 and a 2nd Prize of €50.
While the entry fee is €10 for the Flash Fiction and Poetry competition, with a 1st Prize of €100 and a 2nd Prize of €50.
The competition is in aid of a great cause and all entry fees will go to the Michael Mullan Cancer Fund. Michael is 28 years old, from Kildare and is battling cancer for the third time. As there are no treatment options available for him in Ireland, the competition is helping to raise funds so he can continue receiving life-saving treatment in Boston.
