Title: Blue Smoke

Author: Nora Roberts

Genre: Romantic Suspense. Crime Thriller.

Review: Chantelle, LCA Intern for Library HQ

Synopsis: Reena Hale’s destiny was shaped in the destructive – yet fascinatingly beautiful – fire that leveled her family’s pizzeria when she was young. Now an arson investigator, she finds her strength and wits constantly tested, although sometimes the job seems like a snap compared to her love life.

Review:  Blue smoke is a perfect example of many different genres all rolled into one to create a compelling and riveting novel.  The main character, Reena Hale, follows a path of fiery details filled to the brim with grim and gritty endings.

But not only is her work fiery, but her love life is as well. Reena is not very good with personal relationships.  She finally makes the decision to be entirely dedicated to becoming an arson investigator. When peculiar fires and tantalising late night calls come in especially for her, with an anonymous voice in the background, her life takes an odd turn. Not only that, but her next-door neighbour seems to have locked eyes on her and now that she’s within touching distance, he doesn’t want to let her go. Nora Roberts is a master storyteller who effortlessly weaves a spell of mystery and intrigue combined with romance. I’d recommend this book to adults and young adults who enjoy suspense and of course, romance. If romance and intrigue are your thing, I highly recommend reading the series written under Nora Roberts pseudonym, JD Robb – the In Death Series.  You will quickly fall in love with the characters as well as the ever-changing plots.
