Synopsis: Jess Aarons and Leslie Burke forge an unlikely friendship and together create the imaginary land of Terabithia. Together they rule as king and queen, until an awful tragedy occurs that helps Jess understand just how much he has learned from Leslie.
Review: This children’s novel is set in rural Virginia in the mid-1970’s. Jess and Leslie are two polar opposites, unlikely to ever get long, yet despite the improbability of their friendship, they become inseparable. Jess Aarons’ family don’t have much, and most of the time he can’t stand his own kin, Leslie’s family came from money but moved next door to Jess.
In a world where neither of them are really understood, they create their own little kingdom where they can truly rule. A place where the problems of everyday life, the strife brought on by others, can’t touch them. As long as they rule Terabithia everything should be okay.
But you can’t run away from your problems forever. Now the only question is, Can Jess and Leslie continue to rule Terabithia with an iron fist or will it irretrievably crumble?Â
Bridge To Terabithia is an interesting little world with relatable characters and an intriguing story-line and is well worth the read.
