Author: Rachael Lippincott

Genre: Young Adult Fiction. Romance.

Review by: Chantelle, LCA Intern for Library HQ

Synopsis: Seventeen-year-old Stella has spent a good portion of her life in the hospital as a cystic fibrosis patient. Her life is carefully planned with routines, boundaries and self-control — all of which begin to strain when she meets Will, an impossibly charming teen who has the same illness as she does.

There’s an instant sizzling tension between the two, though restrictions dictate that they must maintain a safe distance between each other. As their connection intensifies, so does the temptation to throw the rules out the window and embrace what neither of them can ever truly have.

Review: Five Feet Apart opens in a hospital room, showing the ins and outs of Stella’s life. Everything has been meticulously planned down to the last letter.

Stella has it all worked out. She never does anything that could compromise herself or others. She has too much to do and not enough time to do it. But for all her careful planning–nothing she did could have foretold the arrival of Will. He’s quick with words, has an easy smile, and likes to live vicariously.

They are polar opposites…bar the disease they have in common, of course. The disease that prohibits  them from touching, never mind encroaching on those precious five feet.

Sometimes, life is too short not to live it. That’s Will’s philosophy anyway. And he’s determined to live it as he sees fit. Away from the medicine that won’t save his lungs. Away from the white hospital walls. Away from everything.

Stella needs order, she needs to know he’s trying to survive.Their worlds collide and ultimately their need to work together to achieve their goals.

Join Will and Stella on a heart-breaking story– guaranteed to have you crying and laughing at the same time– as they both fight for their lives and maybe, if they’re lucky, each other.
