Synopsis: Alina Starkov is a soldier, a map maker really, when her regiment is attacked while crossing the Shadow Fold. Then something peculiar happens as she tries to survive the assault, Alina discovers she has powers. The Darkling whisks her away with the hope that she could destroy the Shadow Fold if only she can learn to wield her powers. He supposedly promises a better life. A life filled with glittering gold and beautiful people, but Alina is beginning to discover that perhaps she might have been lied to, and that the Darkling may have more intentions for her powers than he claimed.
Review: Alina Starkov is an orphan who grew up with Mal. They were friends, and she has had a crush on him since the dawn of time. It’s a shame Mal can’t see past the bevy of other more attractive women quite literally throwing themselves at him. When Alina is whisked away she finds herself falling for the Darkling himself, and he seems to like her. Could this be the changing point for Alina Starkov?
Shadow and Bone is the first book in the three part Shadow And Bone Trilogy. Most recently the series was picked up by Netflix.
Shadow and Bone is the perfect fantasy book to lose yourself into. The world in which Alina Starkov lives is woven beautifully and described wonderfully. The book will leave you on edge the entire time. The characters are intense, realistic and very entertaining.
If you want a book that you can’t put down, this is definitely the book to check out.
