Synopsis: In a bleak future, twenty-four girls and boys are poised against each other in a live TV show called The Hunger Games.Â
There is just one rule: Kill or be killed. Sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen steps forward to take her sister’s place when she is called to take part in the show.
Katniss has brushed death before. For her, survival is second nature.
Review: In a world where the lower classes are divided into districts, and the rich gorge themselves in a city called Panem, Katniss Everdeen works arduously to protect her family. So when her little sister is chosen in the Reaping, the ceremony that chooses the twenty-four children who will take part in that year’s Hunger Games, she acts fast and volunteers herself instead.Â
Katniss has skirted death a time or two so it’s not too daunting. But she struggles to keep her wits about her when Peeta Mellark is chosen beside her.
Peeta had extended an act of kindness toward Katniss, years ago, but she never said a word to him. She never had the chance or the courage to do so.
Now the two are locked in the arena together. And somehow, the two battle the crude games together.
I would recommend The Hunger Games to teenagers who enjoy adventure with a slight edge.Â
