Synopsis: Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good occurs whilst she visits Jeremiah and Conrad at the beach house. She’s known the two boys practically since birth. Review:
The Summer I Turned Pretty is the first book in Jenny Han’s Summer trilogy. The novel revolves around Belly as she attempts to shake off the little kid image Conrad and Jeremiah have built, and become the pretty woman they’ll finally notice. It’s all about this summer, and working on her confidence as well as attempting to navigate life with a heart that yearns for Conrad to notice her, as well as the heartbreak of a family member suffering from cancer. This novel also talks about and deals with issues of drug and alcohol abuse.
This is a slower-paced novel, dealing with some real-life issues that many face today. Recently the novel was picked up by Prime Video and made into a television series.
