Title: What The Lady Wants

Author: Jennifer Crusie

Genre: Contemporary Romance. Mystery Fiction.

Review by: Chantelle, LCA Intern for Library HQ

Synopsis: The life of a private investigator is always so much cooler and swankier in the movies and books. It’s glitz and glam. It’s action and running for your life and your client’s life as well.

However, back in the real world, Mitch Peabody was tired of helping his clients find out their spouses are cheating in some sleazy motel; it wasn’t the life he’d envisioned.

So when Mae Sullivan waltzes into his office, looking stunning, he was a goner. Mae wants him to find out who killed her uncle. He was an old bugger but Mitch agrees to take the case. And his PI life kicks off to an interesting start.

Review: Mitch knows Mae is hiding something from him, and for a little while he indulges her and goes along with what she is saying, being the perfect submissive crime fighting hero she employed him to be. But when a series of events lead to the both of them almost dying, he demands the truth. And Mitch finds his PI movie/book moment in the form of fuming uncles, twisted half-truths, and jealous prospective partners.

What The Lady Wants is yet another* great read penned by Jennifer Cruise. The characters are amusing, and theatrical. The chemistry between Mitch and Mae grows steadily to boiling point throughout the novel.

If you want an easy-to-read crime novel that is also filled with an abundance of laughter whilst also indulging your amateur investigative skills, this is definitely the book for you. This is a wonderful lazy-summer-basking-in-the-sun read.
