Criunnuà na nÓg, Ireland’s national day celebrating the creativity of children and young people takes place on Saturday 13th June and Kildare is showcasing a wonderful programme, around the COVID19 restrictions to encourage young people to connect creativity, but at a distance.
In particular there are 4 techie online workshops aimed at 12-18 year olds from Monday 8th June – Friday 12th June, for showcase at CriunnuÃ. These workshops are in How to Make a Movie, Songwriting, Podcasting, & Digital Photography. All are all free of charge and are booking up fast, so please register to avoid disappointment! Over the past 2 years Cruinniú na nÓg, the national day of creativity for children and young people has become a key point in the calendar for children and young people to try something creative, develop an appetite for discovery and acquire new skills – and 2020 will be no different!
Kildare County Council are hosting a range of cultural and creative activities and online events for Cruinniú na nÓg from podcasts, photography, movie-making and song-writing workshops with Create School, to a traditional song workshop with Aileen Lambert, based on Bridget of Kildare. From environmentally-themed visual arts workshops led by Audrey Walsh inspired by the Curragh to a showcase by Griese Youth Theatre. Try your hand at making ice-cream with Anyone 4 Science, or have some fun learning sign language with Athy Sing and Sign! Why not tune into the ‘Kildare Speak’ podcast with Eoghan Rua Burke and young people from Clane Tennis Club, or be inspired by the showcase of textile art created by young people from Rathangan, working with
Aideen Cross. Young readers can also have a virtual check-in with Children’s Books Ireland at Riverbank Arts Centre!
** There is limited availability for some of the workshops, which will take place in the week preceding Cruinniú, so make sure to book your place! Each event has a separate listing under ‘events’ on the Arts in Co Kildare Facebook page, or see the national website below
