The Children’s Book Festival will be celebrated throughout October in Kildare Libraries as part of a national celebration. The Children’s Book Festival aims to spread the enjoyment of books and reading among children and families and connect the public to authors and illustrators both in classrooms and online.
Below are the list of events running for the public to celebrate The Children’s Book Festival this year in Kildare.

Kieran Fanning ‘Irish Fairy Tales, Myths and Legends’
Teacher and author, Kieran Fanning, talks about writing and storytelling, as well as reading tales from his recent book, Irish Fairy Tales, Myths and Legends, which features ancient myths about the Tuatha Dé Danann, legends about Cúchulainn and Fionn Mac Cumhaill, as well as familiar and lesser-known fairy tales from Ireland’s rich folklore. Suitable for children aged 8-12.

Mr SpiceBag – Meet the Author and Illustrator

Mr Spicebag is the exciting new debut from Author Freddie Alexander, illustrated by Helen O’Higgins which follows the adventures of ten-year-old George who lives in a town of people that are obsessed with spice bags. Join Freddie and Helen to hear all about the creation of the Mr Spicebag in writing and illustration and hear an exciting reading of the book too.

Tom Gates Inspired Drawing and Art Workshop
Thursday 28th October, 3:10pm via Zoom

As part of the Children’s Book Festival and to tie in with Halloween festivities Niamh from Maynooth Library will run her yearly Tom Gates inspired drawing and art workshop. Have you ever been reading about Tom’s band Dog Zombies and wondered just what a Dog Zombie might look like?
This is a fun Zoom workshop to explore the possibilities and design your very own rock band poster. This is a workshop with Tom Gates fans in mind, but having read these books is not essential.
Open to children aged 7+, all participants require is some paper and something to draw and colour with.

Kildare Detective Society Meeting
Wednesday 10th November 4pm via Zoom

Kildare Libraries brings you this exciting online workshop as part of the Children’s Book Festival
via Zoom. This workshop is perfect for 8-12 year olds who love Robin Stevens’ A Murder Most Unladylike book series and want to form their own detective club. It will take place on 
Wednesday the 10th of November at 4pm and finish about 4.50pm. Please bring a pen or pencil 
and paper to this event to help you solve a murder! We encourage children to come dressed as
their favourite character from A Murder Most Unladylike books.
This session will be interactive and an adult must be present for the duration of
the workshop.
