Saint Patrick’s Day will be virtual this year due to the Level 5 Restrictions but there are still ways to celebrate.
This year there is a dedicated http://www.stpatricksfestival.ie/ for the Saint Patrick’s Festival with events running from the 12th to the 17th March. There will be six days and nights of virtual events covering storytelling, traditional and contemporary music, cultural events and more.
Other ways to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day are to have a family film night with an Irish produced film, a game night, wear green clothes, listen to or read Irish poetry, music or authors. You could also try to learn Irish dancing or a few words of the Irish language or if you play a musical instrument, some traditional Irish music. Alternatively, you could watch a virtual parade or enact your own parade in the back ground.
Or you could do try this easy craft and make your own pot of gold?
To make your own pot of gold, you’ll need:
- 3 bags of chocolate gold coins
- A large jar
- Black acrylic paint
- Gold twine (if you can’t find any, just use ordinary twine or else just don’t bother)
- Printable tags downloaded from https://www.polkadotchair.com/pot-gold-mason-jar-gift-idea/ (if you don’t have a printer, you can skip this step if you want)
- Tape
- Gluestick and Sellotape
Step 1: Tape off the bottom half of the jar and paint with the black acrylic paint. If you want the paint to set permanently, bake the jar in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius for 15 minutes otherwise the paint will peel off over time. If you don’t want to bake the jar, leave it alone for an hour to let the pain dry.
Step 2: Fill the jar with the chocolate gold coins. If you choose to bake the jar to set the paint permanently, let it cool completely before adding the chocolate to prevent the chocolate melting.
Step 3: Print out the tags and rainbows and glue the back and front of the tags together. Repeat for the rainbow. Use the wine to attach the tags to the jar and the Sellotape to stick the rainbow to the jar’s lid.  If you can’t print out the tags and rainbows, simply draw and cut out your own if you want to.
