Disclaimer: I generally find fantasy books to have too many characters and sub-plots to keep track of!

With that settled and out of the way, I picked up this first book in the Throne Of Glass series on recommendation from a colleague. The first thing I noticed was that it wasn’t too weighty, in comparison with other fantasy books – excellent!  The action and plot in this first installment revolves around 18 year old Celaena Sardothien and her mission to become the royal assassin of the court. This involves sparring with other rivals for the position. But when two of her rivals are found dead in quick succession, Celaena must act fast to find the murderer before she is next.

I found this to be a gripping read and well-written, with the characters fully fleshed out. Even if you don’t think you like fantasy, give this a go. You might surprise yourself – like I did.  Also, this:

“Libraries were full of ideas – perhaps the most dangerous and powerful of all weapons.”

Best. Quote. Ever!
