I picked this one up and then put it down again because I thought it was a sequel to One Of Us Is Lying, which I haven’t read. I later realised that it wasn’t a sequel however, so I picked it up again and gave it a go.

The main character is Ellery who, along with her brother Ezra, has moved to Echo Ridge to live with their grandmother. This is a strange place where young people seem to go missing with some regularity. Only five years ago, the girl who became homecoming queen was killed. This year, before Ellery starts her new school, someone has plans to make homecoming very menacing – and then another girl goes missing. This is a mystery that needs solving – can Ellery solve it when everything around her is starting to get creepy?

I really loved this book. I found it a welcome change from the usual light young adult books that I would normally read. Oh, and Ellery is a true-crime junkie like me. Perfect! The storyline was engaging and made me think and second-guess myself ’til the very end. I am definitely going to read more of Karen’s books, as I enjoyed this one so much.
