Wednesday, 6 May 6.30pm-8pm – Pike Hill: The Rath Massacre.
Book launch with author Martin Malone, followed by a discussion of his new work of historical fiction set amid the highly charged atmosphere of the 1798 Rebellion in Kildare.

Thursday, 7 May 6.30pm-8pm – From Crown to Harp: How the Anglo-Irish Treaty was undone 1922-1949.
David McCullagh will recount the remarkable story of the peaceful revolution that took Ireland from part of the Commonwealth to a Republic.

9.45am–10.30am ‘Has History got a future?’ – The challenges facing Local Historians today. Roundtable Discussion with Brian McCabe, Michael Dempsey, Karel Kiely and Celine Rourke, chaired by Mario Corrigan.

11.00am–12.00pm – Siege in Ireland 1641-1653.
Dr. Pádraig Lenihan will provide a fascinating insight into the brutal Irish Wars of Religion (1641-1653), in which the art of siege warfare played a crucial role. The presentation will reference aspects of these wars in Kildare.

Karel Kiely is the Kildare County Archivist. She also works as a genealogist and is the author of several books, including Tracing Your Kildare Ancestors.
