PRIVATE JAMES BYRNE, ATHY

A letter from the Chaplain of the 2nd Leinsters informed the parents of J. Byrne of this regiment that he had been killed on the night of the 30th ult. The boy was a son of ex-Sergeant Jas. Byrne who has another son serving with the colours. The Rev. Denis Doyle, who conveyed the news states that the young lad’s death “was quick and instantaneous for a shell burst right upon him. May God rest his soul”. He had the benefits of the Sacraments that day. It was a soldier’s death.
