There’s Spooky Goings On In Kilkea Castle (1970)
There’s Spooky Goings On In Kilkea Castle (1970, Nationalist)
The Nationalist reported in 1970 of mystery, intrigue and eerie happenings in the dead of night in the supposedly haunted room of 222 in Kilkea Castle with guests in the hotel room 222 reporting footsteps overhead and female voices amongst other strange occult occurences. This report of recent Spooky Goings On In Kilkea Castle was not the first time that Kilkea Castle was associated with the paranormal, with this particular room having strong links with the ‘Wizard Earl’. The Wizard Earl was the 11th Earl of Kildare who practiced alchemy and later black magic. He is supposed to have proved his supernatural abilities to his wife by turning himself into a bird!
There is much folklore associated with the Wizard Earl a summary of which can be viewed here: http://www.askaboutireland.ie/reading-room/history-heritage/folklore-of-ireland/folklore-folk-tales-and-c/the-wizard-earl/
