9th Irish Military Seminar – 13th, 16th & 17th May 2025

Kildare Library & Arts Service are pleased to announce details of the 9th Irish Military, taking place in Naas and Newbridge in May 2025.

Tuesday 13th May at 7PM Film Screenings in Naas Library & Cultural Centre
Naas Library & Cultural Centre will screen two films on Tuesday 13 May at 7PM. ‘The Rathbride Flying Column. Kildare in the Civil War’ is a film documentary on an anti-Treaty republican unit in the mid-Kildare area during the Civil War, while ‘The Land’ is set during the First World War. Author and film historian Wayne Byrne will interview two of the film-makers involved (Joe Murphy of Prosperous Heritage Society and Joseph Butler writer and director of ‘The Land’). All welcome.
Friday 16th May at 7PM: Launch of Irish Military Seminar & Interview With Ray Lane
Cathaoirleach of Kildare County Council, Cllr Kevin Duffy, will open the Irish Military Seminar on Friday 16th May. Author and military veteran Ray Lane will be interviewed on his well-received memoir ‘Only a soldier knows’ by Cathal Berry including his period serving overseas. Free to attend. Saturday 17th May 9AM – 1PM: Programme Of Military History Talks
The Seminar again features a series of talks by published authors on a wide range of topics relating to Irish military history.

- The Irish in the Resistance with Clodagh Finn and John Morgan
- The Life and Death of IRA Leader Rory O’Connor with Gerard Shannon
- Colour of Conflict. Ireland 1922-1945 with Michael B. Barry and John O’Byrne
