Michael Davitt In Narraghmore, February 1892
The great Irish radical leader Michael Davitt was the main speaker at a major demonstration held in Narraghmore on Sunday 7 February 1892. Best known today as co-founder of the Irish National Land League in the late 1870s, by 1892 Davitt was one of the principal leaders of the anti-Parnellite Irish National Federation under whose auspices the meeting was held in Narraghmore.
The following week’s Nationalist and Leinster Times carried a special supplement with a three page report on the meeting, including a detailed list of attendees from the surrounding districts. Delegations from Athy, Kilcullen, Moone, Narraghmore, Nurney and Suncroft all attended. The report is particularly interest for the lengthy list of attendees from the locality included.
