Rathangan man accorded military funeral

The death occurred on Thursday week of Mr. Joseph Lusk, Rathangan, father of Pat, Frank and Mick Lusk, well-known Kildare footballers. Deceased was about 65 years of age. He was a very decent, quiet, industrious man, very popular with everyone. The late Mr. Lusk fought in the Boer War in the late ‘nineties and had many stories of his experience during the campaign. He was a member of the L.S.F. and the local organization accorded him a military funeral when the remains were interred in the Old Cemetery, Rathangan, on Saturday, the coffin being draped in the Tricolour and the hearse accompanied by a guard of honour and a firing party which fired three rounds over the grave after the interment.

The chief mourners were – Frank, Pat, and Mick Lusk (sons), Mrs. Kennedy, Lil and Nancy Lusk (daughters), Kathleen, Bridie and Pauline Kennedy (grand-children), John Kennedy (son-in-law), Jimmie Ward (brother-in-law).
